Beating the crowds
- Tuesday to Thursday is quietest almost everywhere, and often cheaper.
- Parking is free, but the lower lots fill on holidays and busy days and are served by free shuttles to the ticket office. Aim to be in the lot by about 8 AM on weekends and powder days, and park in the upper lots when they are open.
- The resort's peak-rate days include Dec 20-23, Dec 26-31, Jan 1-2, Jan 16-17, Feb 12-14 and Mar 14-18. Weekdays outside those dates are usually the quietest.
- The base lot fills on heavy storm days, so arriving early matters most after new snow. Lifts open at 8:30 AM and close at 4:00 PM.
- Highway 160 over Wolf Creek Pass closes during storms and avalanche control. Check COTrip before leaving Pagosa Springs or South Fork, because the drive can run well past 30 to 40 minutes after overnight snow.
