Beating the crowds

  • Tuesday to Thursday is quietest almost everywhere, and often cheaper.
  • Weekends and the resort's holiday peak periods are the busiest days. Monday through Thursday has smaller crowds and longer-lasting snow, per the lodge's own guidance.
  • Leave early and allow extra time on US-26 and Timberline Road. Traffic and chain requirements slow the drive in winter.
  • Park in the Salmon River Lot or the Main Lot early. Both are first-come, first-served and fill on peak days. Overnight parking is not allowed in either lot.
  • The Timberline Shuttle runs Fridays through Sundays between Summit Pass and Wy'East Day Lodge, and the Mt. Hood Express bus runs from Sandy for $2 each way. Both help avoid the lot.
