Beating the crowds

  • Tuesday to Thursday is quietest almost everywhere, and often cheaper.
  • Ride the free Blue Bus Green Route 341 from town of Taos, running Wednesday to Sunday from Dec 20 to Mar 22, instead of driving the nine-mile mountain road. It does not run Mondays or Tuesdays.
  • Parking is limited on holidays, powder days and event weekends. Use the Armadillo, Bear, Gila Monster, Eagle and Deer lots, which the resort serves with a free shuttle in winter. Roadside parking may be restricted during high-visitation periods.
  • Buy lift tickets at least 72 hours ahead for up to 33% off. Early-season adult tickets are $75 through Dec 10.
  • Expect the busiest days around the Dec 26 to Jan 2 holiday stretch and the second week of March, when Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas spring breaks overlap. Weekdays are quieter than weekends.
