Beating the crowds
- Tuesday to Thursday is quietest almost everywhere, and often cheaper.
- Park in the free first-come lots early on weekends and holidays, or use the Truckee shuttle; paid Upper Lot spaces at $35 are reserved online in advance and fill early.
- Carpool with four or more people to use the Upper Lot carpool zone on weekends and holidays, which is free in the paid parking area.
- Check the Old 40 status by text before driving. When Old 40 is closed, I-80 over Donner Summit carries the traffic.
- Buy lift tickets online in advance. Window rates are roughly double the online starting rate, and advance buys sell out on weekends and holidays.
