Beating the crowds

  • Tuesday to Thursday is quietest almost everywhere, and often cheaper.
  • On Peak Days, Value Pass holders can't ski until 1 PM. Peak Days are Dec 26 to Jan 3, Saturdays and Sundays from January through Mar 7, and the MLK and Presidents Day Mondays. Midweek days outside those dates are the quietest.
  • Parking lots fill early on snowy weekends and storm days. Plan to arrive about 30 minutes before first chair. Leave Portland around 6:30 a.m. and fill up on gas in Sandy, the last reliable station before the mountain.
  • Coming from Hood River avoids the Government Camp backup on US-26. The resort FAQ says the Hood River Meadows lot is a good option for skiers with their own gear, and CAT's Gorge-to-Mountain Express runs buses from Hood River.
  • A Sno-Park permit is required for every lot from Nov 1 through Apr 30. Buy it in town before you arrive so you don't lose time at the lot.
