Beating the crowds

  • Tuesday to Thursday is quietest almost everywhere, and often cheaper.
  • Day ticket sales are capped on weekends and holidays. Buy online before you go, or use a Stark Mountain Card, which gets you direct-to-lift access and is not subject to the daily cap.
  • Midweek, the 2 pm to close ticket ($39 adult) is the cheapest way to ski, and lift lines are usually shorter than on weekend mornings.
  • The Single Chair is the only lift of its kind in the US and runs at about 600 feet per minute with limited capacity, so lines build quickly after fresh snow. Arrive early on powder days, or ski midweek when the crowds are thinner.
  • Mad River Glen has no snowmaking, so it depends on natural snow. Plan trips after storms, or in early season and late winter weekdays, for the lightest crowds.
