Beating the crowds

  • Tuesday to Thursday is quietest almost everywhere, and often cheaper.
  • Weekend parking fills early. Arrive before 9 AM on Saturdays and Sundays. Reader reports say the Tramside garage and Hotel Jay lot are often full by 10 AM, and later arrivals end up on the access road. Overflow goes to the Golf Clubhouse lot, and the lower Route 242 lot at Stateside is another option.
  • Stateside is the less crowded base. Its main lot has plenty of day parking, and the Stateside chairs serve the other face of the mountain. Riders who start there tend to avoid the Tramside crowds.
  • When the tram and upper lifts are on wind hold, skiers move to the lower quads and lines lengthen. Check the lift status before you ride, and plan to ski the Stateside lifts on those days.
  • Avoid Jan 1 through Jan 3 and the Presidents' Day week in mid-February, when holiday and school-break traffic is heaviest. Midweek days are the quietest.
