Beating the crowds
- Tuesday to Thursday is quietest almost everywhere, and often cheaper.
- Park at Stagecoach or Boulder Lodge on the Nevada side, which are free every day; come early because they fill first on busy days. From the North Shore, take Kingsbury Grade to avoid Stateline traffic.
- Weekday gondola lines from Heavenly Village are noticeably shorter than weekend lines, which build mid-morning. Arriving before 9 a.m. on weekends helps.
- Parking reservations are no longer required for 2026-27 according to the resort's parking page, so check the page again before you drive up. The Heavenly Village garage is city-run and paid, and the California Lodge shuttle connects to the village.
- US-50 over Echo Summit can close for avalanche control and has chain controls in storms. Check Caltrans QuickMap before leaving Sacramento or the Bay Area, and leave early on Fridays.
