Beating the crowds
- Tuesday to Thursday is quietest almost everywhere, and often cheaper.
- Elk and Bear base lots charge $13 per car before 1 pm and are free after 1 pm. Arriving after 1 pm on busy days is cheaper, but the lots fill early on powder and holiday days, so arriving before 8 am is safer. Complimentary shuttles run from 5:30 am to 1 am to the Covered Bridge.
- Village garages (Ford Hall, Villa Montane) are the most convenient but fill first. Going to Beaver Creek Village by the Elk or Bear lot shuttle avoids the garage queue.
- Westbound I-70 on Saturdays is heavy from about 6:30 to 11 am, with the peak around 8 am. Sunday mornings are usually lighter. Eastbound Sunday traffic builds from about 1 pm, peaks around 4 to 5 pm, and eases after 7 pm, so leaving after 7 pm avoids the worst of it.
- Lift tickets are limited and can sell out, so buying in advance is recommended. Tickets bought more than 9 days before arrival are mailed; otherwise they can be picked up at a ticket office with photo ID.
